Climate innovation challenge
Last year, over 230 people from 43 countries entered our challenge. From these, our selection panel chose ten incredible finalists. Each of these climate innovators has received a £5,000 award. Expert mentors supported them to prototype their idea or take it to the next level. In October, we selected the top three winners in this challenge: Aysel Abasova from Turkey, Joseph Kagabo from Rwanda, and Güllü Hüseyn from Azerbaijan.
Now, this challenge opens again, with a post COP26 climate action and resilience focus. Submit your ideas now!
Three finalists win Destination Zero challenge
Their innivations aim to addressing climate change negative impacts by recycling plastic, inventing energy efficient devices and biodegradable packaging solution.

Aysel Abasova, Turkey – biodegradable food waste solution
Aysel is recycling single-use plastic generated in cities to create food waste composting bins.
Joseph Kagabo, Rwanda – environmentally friendly packaging
Joseph has created a packaging solution that is biodegradable within 45 days and can be fed to livestock after use.
Güllü Hüseyn, Azerbaijan – temperature regulating panels
Güllü's wall and ceiling panels reduce the need for air conditioning – and therefore energy consumption – by 25 percent.
Edgar Edmund, Tanzania – plastic lumber
Edgar's passion for plastic recycling began when he was just 15 years old and he now makes school desks from waste plastic.
Ezedin Kamil, Ethiopia – solar and electric three wheelers
Ezedin's idea is to produce solar and electric three wheelers, which use either a solar or an electric charging system.
Believe Obafaiye, Nigeria – solar lanterns for women farmers
Believe's pay-as-you-use solar lanterns bring clean, renewable lighting to people living off the energy grid in Nigeria.
